Sevilla Intensify Efforts to Sign Nigeria Forward

  1. Spanish LaLiga side Sevilla have stepped up their efforts to sign Nigerian forward George Ilenikhena from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad, with the Spanish club looking to secure a late move for the youngster.

Ilenikhena joined Al-Ittihad in February 2026 from French side AS Monaco for a reported €33 million. The 19-year-old forward initially struggled for regular playing time due to strong competition within the Saudi club’s squad, but he has recently made an impact, scoring a quick-fire brace in the first half of Al-Ittihad’s 3–0 King’s Cup victory over Al-Najma.

The Nigeria international is now understood to be open to a return to European football in search of more consistent first-team minutes. Sevilla have emerged as the leading contender for his signature and are working on a possible deal with Al-Ittihad.

Other European clubs have also monitored the situation, with Bologna and Trabzonspor among those to have checked on the striker’s availability. However, Sevilla are currently the club showing the strongest interest as the transfer window approaches its deadline.

Any move will depend on Sevilla reaching an agreement with Al-Ittihad over the structure of the transfer. Having invested a reported €33 million in Ilenikhena earlier this year, the Saudi club are expected to carefully consider any proposal for the young forward.
