Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has won the Beyond the Pitch Award at the 2026 Best of Africa Awards, in recognition of his charitable work and contributions to grassroots football development in Nigeria.
The Nigerian international received the honour at the ceremony held in London on Monday, October 26, celebrating his efforts to give back to society and create opportunities for young footballers beyond his professional career.
Awoniyi’s recognition highlights his commitment to youth development through initiatives aimed at nurturing emerging talents and strengthening grassroots football.
His work reflects the growing role of professional footballers in using their influence to support communities and contribute to the long-term development of the game.
The Coventry City forward has also been involved in youth football development in Kwara State, where he grew up. His investment in grassroots competitions and support for aspiring players have helped provide young talents with opportunities to develop their abilities and pursue their football ambitions.
England international Michelle Agyemang won the women’s category of the Beyond the Pitch Award, with both honours recognising footballers whose contributions extend beyond their performances on the field.
Established in 2011, the Best of Africa Awards celebrates African excellence across sports, entertainment, entrepreneurship and media, with a particular focus on philanthropy, leadership and community impact.
Awoniyi’s latest accolade recognises his efforts to make a difference away from the pitch while inspiring the next generation of Nigerian footballers.
