Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has earned strong endorsement from coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who has publicly identified the Super Eagles international as a potential leader within the squad.
In a post shared on the club’s official social media platforms, Arbeloa said: “Calvin is a proper player. He has everything. He’s a really funny guy, but when we have to work, he’s the first one. I really love Calvin. He can be our leader.”
The remarks underline the growing stature of the Nigerian centre-back at Craven Cottage. Since joining Fulham from Ajax, Bassey has established himself as a reliable presence in defence through his consistency, physicality and professionalism.
At international level, Bassey remains one of the key figures in the Super Eagles setup. His defensive organisation and leadership qualities have made him a regular feature in Nigeria’s backline under successive coaching regimes.
The public backing from Arbeloa further strengthens Bassey’s standing at Fulham as the club prepares for the new season, with the defender continuing to build his reputation as a leader both at club and country level.
