Baník Ostrava has announced that Nigerian defender Abdullahi Bewene will stay with the Czech club until after Wednesday’s MOL Cup match against SK Kladno. Consequently, the 21-year-old will join the Super Eagles later in the current international window, Naijafooty.com reports.
Bewene was named by head coach Eric Chelle in the 24-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendly against Russia, set for October 6. This invitation is part of Chelle’s strategy for the Super Eagles’ European tour.
Initially, Bewene was expected to participate in Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. However, Chelle did not include him in the squad for those fixtures, later selecting him for the game against Russia.
Baník Ostrava confirmed via their club official website that Bewene will keep training with the first team and be available for Wednesday’s cup clash in Kladno. He is slated to leave the club post-match to join his Nigerian teammates.
Bewene has made significant contributions for Baník this season, playing in nine Chance Liga matches and logging 731 minutes of league play. He also participated for 45 minutes in the club’s MOL Cup campaign.
The defender has already earned two senior caps for Nigeria, playing a full match in their 2-2 draw with Poland and making a substitute appearance against Portugal, providing him with valuable international experience ahead of his next national team engagement.
