The Super Eagles will commence their first training session on Tuesday as preparations gather momentum for Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Madagascar, Naijafooty.com reports.
Head coach Eric Chelle and members of his technical crew have arrived in Uyo, with invited players gradually reporting to camp ahead of the crucial international assignment. The team’s camp officially opened on Monday.
Nigeria will host Madagascar on Friday, September 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, with the encounter serving as the Super Eagles’ opening Group L fixture in the qualification race for the 2027 AFCON tournament.
Chelle has named a 24-man squad for the opening round of qualifiers, including captain Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and Ola Aina. Three players have also received their first senior invitations as the coach continues to assess his options.
Tuesday’s training session will provide Chelle with an opportunity to evaluate the players available, introduce his tactical approach and begin building cohesion within the squad. The coaching staff will also focus on preparations for the specific challenges expected from Madagascar.
Following the home fixture, Nigeria will travel to Bissau to face Guinea-Bissau on September 29 in their second Group L encounter. With more players expected to arrive from their respective clubs, attention is now firmly on the Super Eagles’ opening training session as the team begins its quest for a place at the 2027 AFCON.
