The Federal Government has fulfilled its cash reward pledge to the Super Falcons following their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, with each player receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000.
Coaches and team officials have also received the equivalent of $50,000 each, completing the cash component of the presidential reward package announced after the team’s triumph in 2025. The reward was promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after Nigeria defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in the WAFCON final on July 26, 2025, in Rabat.
The Super Falcons came from 2 goals down to secure the victory, extending their record as the most successful team in the history of the continental women’s competition. Beyond the financial incentives, the presidential package also included a three-bedroom flat in Abuja and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) for each player, coach and official.
The housing benefits and national honours had previously been presented, with the latest disbursement completing the outstanding cash payments. The National Sports Commission confirmed that the payments were processed in collaboration with the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development.
NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for honouring his commitment to the team. He described the fulfilment of the pledge as an important step towards recognising sporting achievements and noted that the gesture would encourage young Nigerians, particularly girls aspiring to build careers in sports.
The NSC also referenced the Federal Government’s reward payments to the D’Tigress following their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket success and the fulfilment of benefits promised to the Super Eagles after their 2023 AFCON silver-medal finish.
