Nigeria international Gift Monday has completed a move to Boston Legacy FC after the American side reached an agreement with Washington Spirit in a deal reportedly worth $500,000 in transfer threshold funds, Naijafooty.com reports.
The National Women’s Soccer League clubs announced the transfer on Thursday, with Boston acquiring the 24-year-old forward as it looks to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the closing stages of the season. Washington will also retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause on the player.
Monday joined Washington Spirit in 2025 and made 48 regular-season appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists. She has, however, struggled for regular playing time this season, featuring in 18 league matches and contributing one goal and one assist.
The Nigerian forward made NWSL history last year when she scored the fastest hat-trick from kick-off in the league’s history. She needed just 35 minutes and 52 seconds to complete the feat against Houston Dash.
Before moving to the United States, Monday spent two-and-a-half seasons with Spanish club UD Tenerife, where she established herself as one of the prominent Nigerian forwards in European women’s football. She previously played for FC Robo and COD United Amazons in Nigeria.
Boston Legacy general manager Domè Guasch said Monday’s arrival would give the club additional attacking quality, particularly in pressing opponents and creating opportunities in the final third.
Monday, who made her Super Falcons debut in 2019, was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She has also been involved with the national team during the ongoing Olympic qualification campaign.
