Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel is one booking away from a one-match suspension as Birmingham City prepare for their upcoming Championship fixtures, Naijafooty.com reports.
The right-back was cautioned in the 89th minute of Birmingham’s 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion after an altercation with forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan, leaving him close to the suspension threshold.
Osayi-Samuel had also received yellow cards in successive matches against Bristol City, Wrexham and Southampton. Another caution against former club Queens Park Rangers on Saturday would rule him out of Birmingham’s subsequent meeting with Cardiff City on October 24.
Under Football Association regulations, players who accumulate five yellow cards within their team’s first 19 league matches face an automatic one-game ban.
The Nigerian has been a regular figure in Birmingham’s starting line-up this season, starting all 12 of the club’s matches so far. His consistency has made him an important member of the team as they continue their campaign in the English second tier.
Osayi-Samuel delivered one of his strongest performances in the recent win over West Brom, helping goalkeeper James Beadle preserve a clean sheet and earning the Man of the Match award.
The 28-year-old will now need to avoid another booking against QPR if he is to remain available for Birmingham’s trip to Cardiff.
