Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has etched his name into Galatasaray’s derby history after scoring twice in their 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Fenerbahce in the Turkish Süper Lig on Monday, Naijafooty.com reports.
The Nigerian forward struck twice in the first half at Rams Park to help Galatasaray secure all three points in one of Turkish football’s fiercest rivalries. He opened the scoring in the 29th minute, finishing confidently after combining with Barış Alper Yılmaz to give the hosts the lead.
Osimhen doubled Galatasaray’s advantage shortly before the break, finding the net with a header following a delivery involving defender Davinson Sánchez. Fenerbahce fought back in the second half, with İrfan Can Kahveci reducing the deficit through an acrobatic finish, but the visitors could not find an equaliser as Galatasaray held on for the win.
According to Opta Can, Osimhen became only the second Galatasaray player to score against a Fenerbahce team managed by İsmail Kartal in the Turkish league, joining former Dutch international Wesley Sneijder. Sneijder achieved the feat in October 2014, when he scored twice to help Galatasaray defeat their Istanbul rivals 2-1.
The brace took Osimhen’s tally to nine goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions this season. The Super Eagles striker will now look to sustain his scoring form as Galatasaray continue their domestic campaign, with his latest performance further strengthening his standing among the club’s key attacking players.
