Nigeria’s Super Falcons have dropped seven places to 43rd in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following a disappointing run of results that saw the team lose 83.54 ranking points.
The 10-time African champions previously occupied 36th position in the June ranking but now have 1,518.02 points. Despite the decline, Nigeria remain the highest-ranked women’s national team in Africa.
The drop follows a difficult period for the Super Falcons, who failed to reach the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the first time in their history. Nigeria also suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the tournament’s World Cup qualification play-off, missing out on a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Elsewhere in Africa, South Africa fell two places to 59th, while newly crowned African champions Cameroon climbed nine places to 62nd. Morocco sit 64th, Ghana are 65th and Zambia occupy 70th position. Malawi recorded the biggest rise globally, climbing 49 places to 104th after reaching the WAFCON final and securing qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The latest ranking represents a setback for Nigeria as the team looks to rebuild following a difficult continental campaign.
Attention now turns to upcoming assignments, including the Super Falcons’ 2028 Olympic qualifying tie against Morocco, as they seek to improve their results and regain ground in the global standings. The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking is scheduled for release on December 7, 2026.
