Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey as they assess defensive options ahead of the 2027 transfer window. The Fulham centre-back has attracted interest from the Premier League giants following his consistent performances this season.
According to TEAMtalk, United’s football department have been impressed with the 26-year-old’s displays and are keeping a close watch on his progress. Bassey has also been trusted with the captain’s armband at Fulham, underlining his growing importance to the London club. His ability to operate as both a centre-back and left-back is understood to be one of the key qualities attracting United’s attention.
The reported interest comes as Manchester United prepare for possible changes to their defensive setup. Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire are approaching the final months of their current contracts, prompting the club to consider potential replacements. United’s defensive concerns have intensified following a 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on October 25 and a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League.
Bassey has made 10 appearances for Fulham across all competitions this season, including eight Premier League matches and two League Cup outings. He has played 838 minutes and established himself as a regular presence in the side since joining the club in 2023.
Manchester United are not alone in monitoring the defender. Newcastle United and Everton are also reportedly interested, while Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are said to be tracking his progress. Competition for his signature could increase as the next transfer window approaches.
Bassey’s current contract with Fulham is expected to expire next summer, although the club hold an option to extend it by another year and remain interested in agreeing fresh terms. His contractual situation is likely to become a key factor as United and other clubs continue to assess the possibility of securing his services.
