The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach of the Super Falcons ahead of their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.
Eguavoen takes charge following the dismissal of former head coach Justine Madugu and his technical crew after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the first time Nigeria will miss the tournament since it began in 1991.
The interim coaching team will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma, who previously managed the Falconets across multiple cycles, including the 2022 and 2024 U-20 World Cups. Ayisat Yusuf, a former Super Falcons defender with 68 international caps, and goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa complete the technical crew.
Eguavoen’s first assignment will be the second-round Olympic qualifying ties against Comoros, scheduled for October 9 and 13, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State. Both legs of the fixture will be played at the same venue.
The Super Falcons received a bye into the second round as one of Africa’s highest-ranked teams and must navigate four knockout rounds in total to secure one of the continent’s two spots at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The NFF is expected to continue its search for a substantive head coach while Eguavoen leads the team through the opening phase of the qualifying campaign.
