Super Eagles striker Rafiu Durosinmi marked his official debut for Genk with a goal as the Belgian side began their 2026/27 Pro League campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Zulte Waregem on Sunday.
The powerful centre-forward rose highest to head home a curling cross in the 39th minute, giving Genk a 1-0 lead just before half-time. It was a perfect individual start for the club’s record signing.
However, Genk were unable to hold on to the advantage. After Durosinmi was substituted in the 62nd minute, Zulte Waregem fought back strongly, equalising in the 82nd minute before completing the turnaround four minutes later.
Durosinmi joined Genk from Italian side Pisa and arrives with a strong reputation after an impressive spell at Czech club Viktoria Plzeň, where he scored 35 goals in 86 appearances. Overall, the 23-year-old has recorded 54 goals in 150 professional matches.
The Nigerian striker will now prepare for his home debut when Genk host Westerlo on Saturday, as he looks to build on his early impact and establish himself as a key figure in the team’s attack this season.
