Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare delivered a standout performance on Thursday night, scoring twice and providing an assist as Ajax recorded an emphatic 6-1 victory over FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Conference League.
Arokodare opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finishing off a pass from Oscar Gloukh to give Ajax an early advantage. However, Midtjylland responded through another Nigerian, Friday Etim, who restored parity in the 28th minute with an impressive effort.
The 25-year-old striker restored Ajax’s lead seven minutes into the second half, completing his brace to put the visitors back in front. He then made an assist in the 59th minute, setting up Owen Wijndal for Ajax’s third goal.
Davy Klaassen extended the lead with the fourth goal before Gloukh added another, while substitute Marcos Leonardo completed the scoring to seal a 6-1 victory. Arokodare was replaced in the 70th minute having contributed directly to three of Ajax’s goals.
The brace and assist take Arokodare’s tally to 12 goals and three assists in 16 appearances across all competitions this season. His impressive form will also attract attention from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, particularly as Nigeria continues to assess attacking options alongside first-choice striker Victor Osimhen.
Meanwhile, Arokodare’s influence could strengthen Ajax’s interest in retaining him beyond his loan spell from Wolverhampton Wanderers. With his goals and assists continuing to make a difference in both domestic and European competitions.
