Flamingos Defeats Brazil 3-1 to Reach Historic U-17 World Cup Final

Nigeria’s Flamingos have made history by defeating Brazil 3-1 to secure their first-ever place in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The clash at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat was goalless at half-time, but Nigeria returned with greater attacking intent after the break. Queen Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, finishing off an assist from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi to give the Flamingos the lead.

Nigeria continued to dominate proceedings, with Awawu Bashiru extending the advantage in the 71st minute after being set up by Queen Joseph. Bashiru struck again in the 80th minute, converting an opportunity created by Oluebube Umejiaku to put Nigeria firmly in control at 3-0.

Brazil managed to pull one back through Greise Kelly in the 89th minute, following an assist from Yasmin Queiroz. However, the late goal did little to change the outcome as the Flamingos held on to claim a memorable 3-1 victory and book their place in the final.

The victory also makes them the first African team to reach the final of the competition, following an impressive semi-final performance in Morocco.

Furthermore, the result extends Nigeria’s winning streak to five consecutive matches after recovering from their opening 2-1 defeat to Poland.

The team responded with victories over Puerto Rico, defending champions DPR Korea, Mexico and Venezuela before overcoming Brazil, scoring nine goals across those five wins.

Nigeria will now face Japan in Saturday’s final, scheduled for November 7 at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, Pitch 3, in Rabat, with kick-off set for 7:30 p.m. Nigerian time.

Japan secured their place after defeating DPR Korea on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
