Edo Queens Petition CAF to Overturn WAFU-B Final Defeat

Nigeria’s Edo Queens have petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) seeking to overturn their 3-2 defeat to Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the rescheduled continuation of the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League final.

The petition, signed by club chairman Jarrett Tenebe on October 29, 2026, was submitted shortly after the match in Cairo. Edo Queens argue that administrative and logistical problems surrounding the continuation compromised the fairness of the contest and affected their preparations.

The dispute stems from CAF’s decision to annul the original penalty shootout result. The first encounter on September 5 in Ouagadougou ended 2-2 after regulation time, with Edo Queens winning 4-1 on penalties. Ampem Darkoa successfully protested that the required extra-time periods had not been played, leading CAF to order a resumption from extra time. Mohammed Afishata scored in the 92nd minute in Cairo to give the Ghanaian side a 3-2 victory and the WAFU-B qualification ticket.

In their petition, Edo Queens raised concerns over the change of venue from Ouagadougou to Cairo, late communication of travel arrangements, substandard hotel accommodation and catering, and the alleged prevention of newly registered players from featuring. The club claims these conditions left players exhausted and placed them at a clear disadvantage.

Edo Queens have presented five key demands, including suspension of the qualification ticket confirmation, the nullification of the October 29 result, a full 90-minute replay under proper conditions, the release of official match documents, and, if a replay is impossible before the CAF Women’s Champions League begins on November 1, that they be declared winners of the WAFU-B tournament.

The club has reserved the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport should CAF reject its requests, adding urgency to the dispute with the continental competition due to start in Egypt on November 1.
