Edo Queens have accepted the Confederation of African Football’s ruling and will resume their WAFU Zone B qualifying final against Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Egypt on October 28 or 29.
The CAF Appeal Board upheld the decision to annul Edo Queens’ 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory after the original final ended 2-2 in Ouagadougou on September 5. Match officials had gone straight to penalties without playing the required extra time, prompting a successful protest from Ampem Darkoa.
CAF ordered that the contest must continue from the start of extra time with the score standing at 2-2. The teams will play two 15-minute periods, and if the scores remain level, a new penalty shoot-out will decide the winner.
After consultations with its board, the Edo State Government and the Nigeria Football Federation, Edo Queens confirmed they will honour the decision in the interest of sporting fairness. The squad is scheduled to depart for Cairo on Monday, October 26.
The winner will claim WAFU-B’s remaining ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League, which begins in Egypt on November 1.
